Helping AJ Recruitment Increase Results by 120% and Develop Motivated, Empowered Managers and Recruiters

Andrew Brindley

MD, AJ Recruitment

AJ Recruitment and AJ Community Care is a leading provider of social care staffing solutions and community care support. Having been established for over ten years and experiencing consistent growth; the AJ Group’s performance then started to plateau.

Andrew Brindley and Jo Guy, Managing Director were eager to kick start the company’s financial performance and growth. They engaged with a coach who assisted them in bringing new; structures, procedures and systems into the business.

Unfortunately the results were not at the level that Andrew and Jo wanted. Their goal was to grow their billings and increase their margins in a sector that had experienced significant budget cuts and where there was a downward pressure on fees.

Andrew and Jo realised that to grow their company, they were too hands on. Their team members had little autonomy and their culture reflected a ‘tell and do’ style.

If they didn’t break the cycle of ‘trying’ to do everything and start growing their people nothing would change. Developing managers was regarded as a high priority and yet they had few tools to do this.

It was at this point that Andrew and Jo were introduced to Nicky Coffin.

The identified solution was for Andrew to participate in the six month Manager Leader programme led by Nicky Coffin. This involved a combination of workshops, online learning and 1:1 coaching calls with Nicky.

Nicky challenges you to make a difference to what’s important and encourages you to just do it and not to be afraid if things go wrong.

The Challenge:

  • Develop a culture where team members contribute to the company’s growth.
  • Develop empowered managers who could step up and take responsibility.
  • Increase employee retention.
  • Grow billings; whilst maintaining or even growing margins.

The Outcome:

  • 120% Business growth.
  • Record week, month and year.
  • Fully staffed for 1st time in 2 years.
  • Decreased debtor days by 50%.
  • 50% increase in temp placements.
  • Open culture where individuals are; motivated, empowered, developed
  • Increased retention.
  • Team members now think for themselves and generate ideas.

Helping Independent Recruiter, Yakub Zolynski, Double His Fees And Make Consistent Placements Without Working 24/7

Yakub Zolynski

MD and Independent Recruiter, Market Maverns

Market Mavens is a boutique recruitment consultancy providing permanent and contract hiring solutions across; hedge funds, R&D tax and technology start-ups.  Established for a number of years and enjoying good initial growth, the company began to experience the kind of peaks and troughs in billing that quickly become a frustration for most ambitions business owners. Yakub Zolynski, had been working with a generalist business coach who had helped him navigate through the early stages of setting up a business. However, as the peaks and troughs of billing continued Yakub realised he knew where he was and wanted to be; yet didn’t know how he could create his vision and turn that into tangible reality. He also knew he was;

  • Spending all his time working ‘in’ the business and not enough ‘on’ the business
  • Lacked the working structure and habits to work ‘on’ the business
  • Experiencing downward pressure on fees due to the economic climate

Yakub decided it was time to look for a coach who specialised in the recruitment industry. Having contacted Growth Accelerator, Yakub was sent the details of 5 industry specialist coaches and Nicky Coffin “stood out”.

Shortly after Yakub and Nicky began working together; Yakub decided that to take his business to the next level he would commit to working with Nicky for 12 months by participating in the 750k Billing Blue Print programme. This involved a combination of two, 3 day retreats, weekly accountability calls with a group, online learning and 1:1  coaching calls.

No other programme in the world teaches recruiters the skills to bill £750K AND the ‘mindset’ needed to succeed.

The Challenge:

  • Turn Market Mavens into a company, not just a personal brand
  • Create a working plan that gave space to work ON the business

Helping Billing Manager Emma to Get Consistent Team And Personal Performance

Emma Crayfourd

Team Leader, White Label Recruitment

White Label Recruitment was founded in 2009 by Louise McMullan and specialises in supplying technical engineers into the engineering and manufacturing sectors on both a; permanent and contract basis.

While Louise had a vision for the business which had grown steadily, it was clear that not all the team were aligned behind the company vision and values. Consequently there were inconsistencies in the brand and the business had challenges recruiting for internal staff.

Emma Crayfourd joined White Label Recruitment in 2012, as a senior contract specialist and then progressed to a team leader role; managing two consultants. Emma had worked in recruitment for over six years and yet had received no formal management training. As a result Emma was struggling with specifically how she could maintain her own billings and commission whilst investing time in managing two team members.

Daily and weekly meetings with team members didn’t seem to be delivering the desired results and Emma began to question how she could continue to be a high biller and manage people without ‘living’ at work.

Louise and Emma were introduced to Nicky Coffin by another recruitment colleague and have subsequently both participated in the Become a Great Recruitment Manager programme.

Nicky is straight talking, honest and open and gives great personal examples of what does and doesn’t work. She talks common sense.

The Challenge:

  • Align company vision and values that communicate company brand.
  • Build a platform of Team Leaders that allow Louise to step back and focus purely on strategic issues.
  • Create a recruitment process that’s based on facts and not ‘gut’.
  • Maintain billings whilst managing and developing a team.
  • Invest time effectively to do the job within sensible working hours.

The Outcome:

  • Stopped telling team what to do and started coaching them
  • Empowered team to act on own ideas
  • Changed internal hiring process, using ‘values’ and behavioural analysis
  • Using KPI’s and performance ratios to deal with under performance
  • Tripled her own billings
  • Business revenue doubled over the last year
  • Training sessions now structured, behaviour changes as a result
  • Effectively balancing managing and own billings, working smartly and enjoying life!

“Doubled our Average Fee and Invoiced Our Highest Amount in Perms for 4 Years!”

I’ve worked in recruitment for over 20 years and have always been successful but have never been able to get my consultants to achieve the same degree of success. The course has changed everything for me. It made me realise that the success or failure of my consultants lay at my door and has given me the tools to ensure that they are as successful as me. Since the training, my consultants are overachieving their targets, in March we invoiced £24350 in perms, which is the highest we have done in 4 years… For April we billed £24912.50 and we”ve still got the temp revenue to add to this!! We have also increased our average fee by 50%. It has been amazing!

“An Extra £320k in Sales”

Following on from Nicky’s course, my team increased their results by 84% – and extra £320k. One of the things Nicky suggested completely transformed my pipeline of new business. This year, we have increased our sales again by 38%. The main reason for this increase in billings is going on Nicky’s course. It was great to be in an environment which encouraged the sharing of best practices, taught me how to plan strategically, how to train members of my team and how (and what) to delegate.
